Simple Tips For Looking After Your Sofa

Simple Tips For Looking After Your Sofa

Your living room sofa is one of the most used items in your home. It's often where children sit and play, adults relax and read a book, or where you 'chill' with your friends - it comes to no surprise that it’s prone to experience some wear and tear.

Whether it is brand new or a hand-me-down that's lasted you for years, follow this sofa care guide to extend its lifespan and keep it looking as good as new.

VELVET

While soft and luxurious, velvet sofas like our rich green Dado variety can be tricky to take care of. To keep up its appearance, avoid placing it in direct sunlight then vacuum and gently brush the fabric daily. If an accident occurs, make sure to check the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions. We recommend using a paper towel to soak up the spillage then using a velvet dry-cleaning product or calling in the professionals. Whenever in doubt, try a spot test in an unnoticeable area first.

FABRIC

When dealing with regular upholstery such as our Emperor Fabric Sofa with sheesham wood, it is similar to velvet but easier to maintain. Similar to most models it is best to keep it out of the sun, flip the cushions from time to time, and vacuum daily. If a slipup happens, don’t worry - we’ve all been there! Grab some paper towels and for a DIY fabric cleaner gently dab the couch with a soap and water mixture.

LEATHER

Simple yet elegant, leather sofas are a common choice for modern home designs. To keep it looking its best simply dust its surface or use a vacuum for tight crevices. For more difficult stains and spills make sure to find a leather-specific cleaning solution to ensure that you do not damage the finish or change its colour. However, there is no need to worry if the natural texture or colour changes over time. With proper care leather ages beautifully, building character with every year that passes.

CONSISTENCY IS KEY

Just remember it's always worth taking the time to make sure your sofa is clean and protected. With a little discipline and some time on your hands, it's possible to achieve the results you set out to. Hopefully, by following these tips, you can keep your sofa looking its best for years to come. For more great home tips and tricks, click here
