Swedish interior design firm Studio Lawahl specializes in elegant design and renovation, and they recently did a refined family apartment redesign in Stockholm for artist Erik Bratsberg. The result is a beautiful and stylish space that showcases Erik's artwork perfectly, and the family loves it!

Erik's home is unsurprisingly located in the central Östermalm district of Stockholm - known for its designer boutiques, galleries, and museums like Gallery Pascale and DesignHouse Stockholm. As a self-proclaimed design lover, Erik has mirrors Scandinavian design throughout his newly renovated Art Nouveau apartment, aptly named Apartment O. This is a collaborative approach of art and design between him and other designers and artists. As a co-founder of Studio Lawahl, Joanna Lavén worked closely with the family to create an entirely new floorplan. “At the first meeting, I got to know the client and we quickly understood each other,” Joanna says. “His vision was a home with an international touch that would be suitable for both family life and social interaction.” The result is a harmonious inner-city apartment that is both aesthetically pleasing and functional.

Joanna relocated the entrance of the kitchen to expand the space and to connect it with the dining room; this way, there is an easy flow between both areas. The new orientation also allows more natural light to enter the apartment, which is beneficial for the young family. In addition, a laundry room and new storage space were created to help with the everyday needs of the family. One of Joanna's favorite features in her dining room is the sideboard designed by Luciano Frigerio. It embodies the modernist aesthetics that are seen throughout the room and she loves how it looks. The designer sourced vintage chairs, reupholstered them in natural leather, and found a vintage table to create a vision of effortless, timeless design for the family home.

Many of the furniture pieces and decorations in Studio Lawahl's projects are sourced from antique stores and auctions, giving the timeless interior design a feeling like it has always been a part of the home. "My focus is to emphasize the craftsmanship of the object," Joanna says. "To pay attention to detail and bring out the character of the space with lamps, soft textiles, and carefully selected objects and natural materials," the designer adds.
