The Toorak House makes a bold statement with its curved double-height masonry form that guides movement towards the front door. Its confident and masculine presence among the existing streetscape captures the personalities of its inhabitants and establishes a distinct identity of its own. The home's design, created by K.P.D.O., reflects the owners' love for entertaining and openness, and blends old-world glamour with contemporary freshness to create a unique and engaging living space.
K.P.D.O. has artfully balanced private and more public elements in the design of this home. The journey through the space is carefully crafted using a mix of curved and linear elements to define areas in subtle ways. The curved openings create a sense of connection between the formal spaces, while the warm and neutral travertine flooring adds texture and resilience for family life.
The home exudes grandeur upon entry, matching the neighboring heritage structures and creating a welcoming embrace throughout. A muted color palette provides a timeless foundation for the collection of artwork, lighting, and furniture placed within each space. The owners' love for jazz music is reflected in the design, with space created for a grand piano and areas for both formal and informal gatherings.
The surrounding landscape is thoughtfully incorporated into the design with openings that bring in light from the edges and above, enhancing the feeling of openness throughout the home.
